About our pigs

Three hundred years ago - so legend has it - the Berkshire hog was discovered by Oliver Cromwell's army during the English civil war in the shire of Berks in England. After the war, army veterans carried the news to the outside world of the wonderful hogs of Berks; larger than any other swine of that time and producing hams and bacon of rare quality and flavor.

Berkshire pork is prized for its flavor, tenderness and juiciness. River Bend Farms is glad to bring this breed to our customers on this side of the pond.

Like our beef, our berkshire pigs are raised all naturally (with no anti-biotics or hormones), on wholesome grains supplemented with an abundance of garden scraps and loads of apples.

Custom cutting

Pork can be custom cut to your specifications, and is available as a side or a whole. Each will include a variety of pork cuts, including smoked meats and several kinds of sausages. All cuts will be labeled and frozen in individual packages, as directed by you. Pricing is based on hanging carcass weight, allowing you full flexibility in how to have it cut.

For those customers looking for a smaller quantity, we also offer a Berkshire Sampler Pack, which consists of 35lbs of a good variety of all your favorite pork cuts, similar to the custom cut orders, but in a smaller package.

Our little FARM STORE is now open every Friday 1-5 PM and Saturday 9AM-noon!  Don't have the freezer space for a bulk order?  You can now purchase all our delicious meats in individual retail packages!  Come by and check it out!

Bulk Orders

Order forms are sent out to our email list every 2 months or can be download here. We welcome you to go to our homepage and sign up for our growing email list, so you will automatically receive the order forms every time we have animals ready to go.

  • You must be able to pick up your order at the farm.  We do not ship meat.
  • All orders must be picked up on the appointed pickup day.
  • All orders must be accompanied by cutting instructions, or the butcher will do a standard cut.
